Who's Responsible For Dock Worker Safety?

Over the last three years I have provided warehouse and dock safety training for over 1,500 people.

Part of that training includes "Dangers at the Dock".

Trucks and trailers rolling away from the dock during loading and unloading have resulted in a number of deaths to Forklift operators.

From time to time forklift operators will ask "Who's responsible for dock worker safety? Who's responsible for chocking or restraining trailers?

The answer is clear - the organization operating the facility with the loading dock is
responsible for safety at the dock. This includes The OSHA requirements to restrain trailers during loading and unloading-with wheel chocks or Dok-Lok Trailer restraints.
