Improper Usage and Care of Tires is the Primary Cause of Industrial Tire Failure.
The result, an unnecessary increase in your fleet maintanance costs! |
When Should You Inspect Your Tires?
Lift Truck Operators or other trained individuals must inspect tires at the start of each shift. If they find wear or damage, the lift truck must not be used until the tires have been replaced. Additionally, a more thorough inspection must be done at intervals of 250 operating hours or more often in heavy-duty applications.

What You Should Be Checking
Carefully inspect the tire surface for each of the following conditions:
Cuts |
The sides and contact surfaces should be inspected for cuts. |
Imbedded Objects |
Foreign material imbedded in a tire will cut a tire into pieces. |
Keeping shop floors clear of litter will help avoid imbedded objects |
Uneven or Abnormal Tire Wear |
At the first sign of irregular wear, steering linkage should be checked
for proper alignment. |
Evidence of Possible Overheating on Drive Tires |
A defectively adjusted brake on lift truck equipment can cause serious tire damage. Heat can be rubber's worst enemy. |
Inspection of Base Bands for Proper fit |
A hard blow to the tire can cause rubber separation and will eventually ruin the tire. |
Normal Wear |
Over 30% tire wear indicates the need for replacement. Replace the tire if it is worn to the name or size displayed on the side of the tire. |
| Plus, as the Tire Wears Down, so does the Ability to Absorb Shock!
| Excessive shock can: loosen parts; cause premature wear on parts; damage delicate electrical components; and cause leaks in fluid lines. A qualified MHECO technician can complete tire inspection at your location. You will receive a management report summarizing the tire condition and recommended action for each truck in your fleet. |
